Direct Copper Bond or Direct Bonded Copper refers to a special form of ceramic substrate. Pure copper is applied to a ceramic base body, and semiconductors are often mounted directly on the copper. Due to the relatively high thermal conductivity of the ceramic and the thick copper layer, DCB/DBC are particularly suitable for applications where high heat dissipation is required (laser diodes, UHB LEDs). Due to the good RF properties of the ceramic, DCB/DBC are also used in RF packages.
