As part of a machine capability study (MCS) for soldering systems, we demonstrate that the system in use (e.g. selective, wave or reflow soldering), including process control and the measurement and testing methodology, is capable of consistently and reproducibly producing defined quality characteristics within the required specifications.

The MFU is carried out under pre-agreed conditions (e.g. materials, software version, system condition, process parameters and environmental influences) and documented in a test report.

Test characteristics:

Measurable process/plant parameters, including

  • Flux quantity
  • Preheating capacity or preheating zone temperatures
  • Axis repeatability
  • Recording and analysis of temperature profiles
  • Lot temperature and contact time

Benefits for customers:

  • A transparent, data-driven basis for decision-making regarding the approval of the soldering system
  • Reduction in rework and scrap thanks to validated parameters and clear intervention limits
  • Greater process stability
  • Faster ramp-up to series production through a structured approach and clear results
  • Audit-proof and traceable documentation
