Gold is a precious metal. It is very inert, does not oxidize and is the metal with the third best electrical conductivity after silver and copper. That is why gold is used in electrical engineering to coat contacts, which oxidized silver and copper would have a higher contact resistance. If gold is wetted by liquid soft solders, the gold immediately goes into solution.
