Infrared heaters belong to the group of radiant heaters. No transport medium is required for heat transfer. The heat is generated when it is absorbed by another body. A distinction is made between short-, medium- and long-wave infrared radiation. Short-wave IR radiation is in the range of visible light. Short-wave IR emitters are characterized by a fast inertia-free response to energy input. However, short-wave radiation is also not absorbed uniformly by different surfaces. Medium to long wavelength IR radiation offers a balanced absorption-reflection ratio.
