Optical inspection is the visual visual observation of solder joints in order to qualify them. In order to recognize even the smallest details, inspection aids are used. These can be simple magnifying glasses, or stereo zoom microscopes with a magnification of approx. 5-50x. Cameras are often connected to the microscopes for documentation purposes. Thus, digital images can be generated, but mostly only as 2D images. Incidentally, the IPC-A-610 limits the magnification factors to be used depending on the size of the object to be evaluated.
