The particle size gives the size of the individual grains in a mixture. It is of decisive importance for various characteristics of a material. Solder pastes are available in different particle sizes. The smaller the print pattern, the smaller the particle size of the solder paste has to be. However, as the particle size decreases, the surface area of the particles increases exponentially. In fine pitch solder pastes, therefore, a high percentage of the flux is needed to deoxidize the particles.
