Tim Hruby becomes Bavarian powerlifting champion Insight

A serious accident 13 weeks before a championship - what does that mean for an ambitious strength athlete: give up? Not an option! That´s how our colleague Tim Hruby started the Bavarian Powerlifting Championship 2025. The plan was actually to reduce his weight to 118 kg for the -120 kg class. But then he had a bicycle accident, breaking his ankle, partially tearing his Achilles tendon, and straining several ligaments.

Instead of giving up, Tim decided: “If it holds now, it will hold in competition too.” Training continued. Shortly afterwards, Tim weighed 112-113 kg. The next decision: lose another 8-10 kg in five weeks and move to the -105 kg class? Tim chose this path. On August 30, the competition took place in Weismain, Upper Franconia: at 103.3 kg, Tim was lighter than planned - and the extreme weight loss brought unexpected problems. He managed the 280 kg squat despite subsequent hip pain. Things got tricky with the 180 kg bench press: the gap to the bench due to the lower competition weight was a violation of the competition rules! On his third attempt, Tim lay down stiff as a board, using a rather unconventional technique. But it worked! The 305 kg deadlift finally secured victory and qualification for the 2026 German Championships.

We wish Tim every success in his future competitions - hopefully without any injuries!
